Production Paradise

Welcome to the December 2003 Newsletter, brought to you by Production Paradise Barcelona. Like always we offer you "The Latest" about photo productions, video-, commercial- and film producers, model agencies, rental studios, locations, equipment suppliers and other related services in Barcelona.

On Production Paradise, you will find the most important addresses of service companies for audiovisual productions as well as the daily weather, hotels and restaurants in Barcelona.

bcn production/commercial production: AXIS FILMS

Axis Films has recently produced two commercials:

Comodynes Convenient Cosmetics, for the Agency La Sal. José Manuel Ferrater, fashion photographer and commercial director, turned one of his photographic sessions into a commercial of high visual impact.

Toyota Camry, directed by Matthias Zentner for Saatchi & Saatchi (P. Rico). This three-day shooting took place in several real locations, both interior and exterior, in Barcelona.

At the moment, Axis Films is immersed in the pre-production process of two new image commercials for the German Production Company Velvet Mediendesign, which will be shot in Barcelona and Madrid before the end of the month.

bcn production/commercial production: SETUP PRODUCTIONS

The autumn season in Barcelona had great challenges in store for Setup Productions. As the summer went smoothly by, Esad Cicic came to town with 7 catalogues to shoot for Peek & Cloppenburg’s Men’s Fashion.

Setup had the pleasure to welcome one of the shooting stars in Car Photography: Tom Schulte, on a 4 motifs project for Seat Cordoba, during which he got confirmed another shooting for the Smart Car. Because of the good quality work and quick selection of locations we could offer, Tom stayed in Barcelona to shoot the Smart here as well.

Currently Setup is serving the English Glamour Magazine with Photographer Neil Gavin and editor Belinda Palmer on two editorials.

Like every year, Manga Films plays an outstanding role at the Sitges Festival:

With the movie "Cámara Oscura", directed by the young director Pau Freixas, Manga Films inaugurates the present festival edition, starring Silke, Únax Ugalde, Andrés Gertrúdix, Adrià Collado, Diana Lázaro and Lluís Homar.

"Cámara Oscura" is a thriller full of action. It is about the fear of a group of young people, who are locked up in a freighter in the middle of the sea with a crew, hiding a macabre secret.

TV Movies: Origens (90 minutes). Awarded the Silver Screen at the Chicago Film & Video Festival (2000); Freetown (90´). Produced for Televisió de Catalunya 2.001; La Dona De Gel: (75') TV-Movie for TVC.

Long-Feature Films: All Fake: (90'). Nominated as the Best Film in Premios Ondas 1993; Febrero (90´). Thriller. Directed by Silvia Quer. Currently being shot; Giverny: With Raimond Masllorens as director, the shooting will start by December 2003.

Arriska Films has been working in different projects recently:

The première of "Excuses!", the cinema adaptation of the play, took place on the 14th of November. Excuses! was shot in Barcelona and is the Òpera prima of Joel Joan.

We are also working on the postproduction of the short " El missatge" (The message), and we are going to start the pre-production of a new TV series for TVC (Catalan Televisión) entitled "Porca Miseria".

bcn production/tv/ video production: BENECÉ PRODUCCIONS S.L.

Founded in 1986 as an audiovisual production company, Benecé is specialised in institutional videos, spots, documentary and fiction films, big events and television programs. Currently 4 programs are being broadcasted in La 2 de TVE and C33 (TVC).

We inaugurate a new set. It is a polyvalent space destined for Benecé's own productions, with over 850 square meters including cyclorama, production, dressing and make-up rooms. It's located in Sant Just, close to TVC.

On the other hand, as VAV's agency in Catalunya, Benecé has put an OB-Van that can be equipped with up to 16 digital cameras, within the reach of anyone who needs this service.

Nowadays we are shooting in the Kingdom of Buthan, the documentary film "The Dragon House" in co-production with Irusoin.

bcn production/movie production: BARCELONA PLATÓ FILM COMMISSION

In November, four feature films have taken place in Barcelona:
Alejandro Amenábar has been shooting the last scenes of his latest production" Mar Adentro", using as a set the Central Post Office, the Hospital del Mar, or the Gothic and Raval quarters, among other locations.

Director Joaquín Oristrell is also working on his new film "Inconscientes", a story set in the 19th century and starring actors like Leonor Watling, Luís Tosar o Mercedes Sampietro.

Alfonso Albacete and David Menkes have chosen different parts of the city for "Entre vivir y soñar", starring Carmen Maura and Álex Brendemühl.

Catalan director Rosa Vergés has set some scenes of his production" Vides Velades", in the historical war refuge of Poble Sec.

Last week, Sergi Jasanada shot the Presen campaign for spring 2004. The model was Valerie (SS&M), make up and hair was done by Montse Ribalta (Servimatge), with products from Yves Saint Laurent.

Right now Sergi is preparing the Amichi campaign for spring 2004.

Steffen is going to shoot the new Nissan Atleon truck in Barcelona in December.

At the same time, he is preparing his exhibition about Afghanistan for next January in London at the Joshua Agency Building. We will keep you updated.

Pans & Company decided to change the image and chose Miguel Navarro to shoot the new campaign.

Daniel Riera shot the new campaign for Nenuco.

Portuguese home wear label NEST chose Daniel Riera to shoot their international Campaign.

Simsanphoto is introducing a new contingent called "Art Buying", using our website as a platform to present new photographers. Besides our officially represented photographers, our clients can now also select new talents.

Rick Guest has just shot a European campaign for Calypso watches "Mojate", with Euro RSCG agency.
He has also shot the latest CD cover for Eagle Eye Cherry in Barcelona.

Dimitri Daniloff has done another campaign with the Catalan agency Tandem DDB, shooting the latest international Unno campaign. He is also preparing an editorial of beauty images for the magazine Vanidad.

Roger Casas, recently incorporated into Simsanphoto, has just done the campaign to introduce the local newspaper "El Punt" in Barcelona with Tandem DDB agency. He is also shooting the Fritos & Ruffles campaign for Tiempo BBDO agency.

The photographer Eric Broms shot the last campaign for JC Jeans with the Agency Forsman & Bodenfors produced by Lundlund and European Productions.

The latest Video-clip of the singer "Vega" was directed by Pol Mainat and produced by TV Flash Produccions SL.

Photographer Enric Galceran shot a fashion editorial for the Italian magazine L'Uomo Collezione; the Styling was done by Miquel Arnau.

Stephan Ach has just shot Sloggi campaign with the Creative Director Pablo Carut.

The lingerie line "Belcor" was shot by Juan Aldabaldetrecu with the model Almudena Fernandez.

Spanish Elle: Our beauty Vanessa Lorenzo appears at the cover of this December issue. Inside you will see her at one editorial, and Martina Klein at another one, both shot by Hanspeter Schneider.

The photographer Rafa Gallar recently shot the new Spring-Summer campaign of Habit with the models Cristiano Basso (currently appearing in D&G campaign) and Martina Klein. 
 
The new Anna Mora campaign for Spring-summer was shot in the beautiful area of Badajoz by the photographer Juan Carlos Ponsa. The model chosen to be the image of it was Shirly Bouganin.
 
Once again our model Kevin Merkel got confirmed for the new Caroche campaign shot by Eugenio Recuenco, together with Claudia Lohman.  
 
Carolina G-Akerlin was confirmed for the new Yerse campaign shot by Biel Capllonch.

Our little ones, Kevin Massol, Mimi Sanchez, Nacho Fernández and Estela Vilar are the stars of the Burberry catalogue. 

Young Marc Chasco has done the latest Lacoste catalogue.

Mahaut-Models, the first child model agency based in Ibiza, has placed 5 models at the Karstadt shoot on the island.

At the same time, Mahaut-Models sent its first teenager, Manuela (12), to Germany, where she was booked by the Otto catalogue.

Daxon and Damart, both from France, were shot in Formentera and Ibiza for Mahaut-Models kids.

Javier Larrainzar also chose Rani for his bridal campaign.
David Gant (61) will we featured in the Loewe catalogue, photo by Salvador Fresneda & Bela Adler.

bcn talent/artists & stylists: DANIEL RULL

Daniel Rull was the make-up artist for next season catalogue "Peter Hahn". Featuring Top Model Daniela Lopes (in the pictures), Laura Ponte etc. The pictures were shot by Barcelona based photographer Jens Grundmann.

Daniel Rull´s latest jobs were: shooting in Paris editorial and covers for Joly, editorial in Munich for Marie-Claire and beauty and covers in Athens and Cyros for German "Wellfit". He has also worked for the last Revlon campaign called "Hair Days" for professional use: these images will be shown next month here.

Salva G is a hair salon, situated in the gothic quarter of Barcelona. Since 1995 the working philosophy of Salva G, has consisted of the search and investigation of the new and innovative in hair salon services, interior decoration, and collaborations of fashion, music and art events. VRstore: Vision Robotics is a System Engineering Company for the Multimedia and Professional Video Industry located in Barcelona. Its latest successful achievement has been the Multimedia web-based filing system called "VRstore".

VRstore is a new product, which allows MPEG7 video and metadata cataloguing. VRstore offers Video on Demand features in different resolutions (from PAL/NTSC to HDTV), and many other interesting conveniences such a an automatic character recognition for scanned text, automatic ingest assistant to schedule video MPEG encoding, automatic key frame detection cataloguing, and a flexible contents delivery system.

VRstore is multilingual-web based software, which makes it easy to integrate in existing applications. There are many plug-in accessories to customize VRstore for different applications, such as automatic pattern recognition, external control and triggering to communicate with other peripheral devices (VTR's, Satellite receiver, etc.)
